The Foreign Languages Department is celebrating Discover Languages: 2006 and Beyond- a national initiative, sponsored by The Foreign Languages Association of Virginia(FLAVA), that is dedicated to encouraging students and teachers all across the country to celebrate the importance of learning and knowing a foreign language. As we know, learning another language offers social, cultural, academic and workplace benefits that serve students all their lives. Through the promotion of language study more Americans will be inspired to develop proficiency not only in English, but in other languages as well. This year at SalemHigh School, the celebration is being led by citywide representative, Mrs. Rubicelia Weitzner, Spanish teacher. Many activities are being planned: a Foreign Languages Week, various contests, classroom lessons and projects, participation in FLAVA competitions, cultural performances and foods, and community involvement and events.
