MASTER CLASS QUESTION SHEET

Directions: To receive credit for a master class the students must answer six of the following questions adequately within two school days of the attended session. Make sure statements are supported with examples/documentation. The written assignment should be turned into the sponsor/teacher coordinating the master class. If a student attends a seminar not provided by the academy, the student then submits the paper to his/her strand teacher.

Answer completely a total of six questions—at least one from each section. The assignment must be legible and may be handwritten or typed. If clarification is needed or the student has questions, contact the arts strand teacher or the coordinator. Include the following information:


Directions - include in the answer sheet the following:
1. Full name and Academy strand
2. Master class name (include documentation, i.e. a ticket stub/program)
3. Name of the artist/clinician
4. Date of the master class
5. Answers to five (5) chosen questions, with a minimum of one from four sections, plus the narrative
6. Number the answers to match the questions on the Reflection sheet
7. Support answers with specific examples from the event
***Reflections are to be submitted within one week of the attended session unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.

QUESTIONS

***Narrative Requirement—in addition to answering five questions in the sections below, every master class reflection paper is to include a description of the master class attended. Students are to include five (5) details that impressed them about the event--either in paragraph or bullet form

Core Questions:
1. What is artistically relevant about the content presented in this session?
2. What are some impartial/unbiased standards that the quality of the content presented in this session may be judged?
3. What personal biases do I have that may interfere with an objective viewpoint?

Curriculum Connection Questions:
4. What is the connection between the artistic requirements of my strand and the content presented in this session?
5. How do opposing viewpoints related to this content evolve and survive?
6. What insight(s) can be gained from examining the issues surrounding such varied points of view?

Practice/Discipline Questions:
7. How might I use this content to improve my own artistry?
8. What are the theories and fundamentals that dominate the knowledge of the subject?
9. How do artists organize and apply their knowledge and skills in this field?
10. How does the artist know what skills/techniques to use under given circumstances?
11. What standards are used to determine quality in this area of study and how are those standards used to measure success?

Identity Questions:
12. To what degree is the content presented in this session familiar, surprising and/or intriguing to me?
13. When I am familiar with content, what do I gain from that? What do I give as a result of that? What difference, if any, does it make?
14. When I am surprised by content, what do I gain from that? What do I give as a result of that? What difference, if any, does it make?
15. When I am intrigued by content, what do I gain from that? What do I give as a result of that? What difference, if any, does it make?
16. What are the artistic principles at the core of the content presented in this session?
17. How do people in this field handle subjectivity, ambiguity, uncertainty, persistence, failure, success, collaboration, and/or compromise?
18. How might I handle those things to improve my standing as an artist?
19. How might I shape the field over time?
20. How might the subject shape me?
21. What strengths or weaknesses did I discover about myself?
22. What did I learn from that experience that I can apply to real life?
23. How can I find more information about what was offered at the session?

Performance-Specific Questions:
24. What emotional effect did this performance have on me?
25. What was the level of performance quality observed and what artistic standard(s) did I use in assessing the quality?
26. How successful/popular was the performance and what standard(s) did I use in assessing the success/popularity?
27. If a medium of technology was used during the performance, how effective was it in contributing to the overall performance? Cite specific examples.
28. If the performance included any examples of integrated arts (e.g., art exhibit with music, choral concert with interpretive dance, etc.),  
      how effective was the integration within the performance? Cite specific examples.

Clinic/Exhibition/Demonstration-Specific Questions:
29. How clearly was the information presented and how well was the presentation received by the audience?
30. What specific information was presented that could provide useful overlap into my strand(s)?
31. If a medium of technology was used during the presentation, how effective was it in contributing to the overall session? Cite specific
      examples.
