Class of 2018 Civic Seal

If your student earned a B- or above in US History last year, please encourage him or her to turn in the Civic Seal of Excellence Application. This is a wonderful honor for those students who have completed at least 50 hours of community service in addition to earning at least a B- in US History & Government. Recipients will earn a seal on their diploma in addition to being recognized at Senior Awards Night.  In order to be recognized at Senior Awards Night for this honor, applications should be returned by Friday, May 25th to the School Counseling Office. Contact your student’s counselor with any questions or concerns.

Senior Awards Night

Senior Awards Night

The School Counseling Department is in the process of planning our Senior Awards Night ceremony. If your student will be attending a 2 or 4 year college and has received a scholarship from the college or an outside organization, please submit a copy of the letter(s) to the Counseling Office as soon as possible. In order to recognize the students at the Senior Awards Night Ceremony, we must have official documentation of the scholarship. You can send it to Kathryn Kressel via email/fax (information below) or have your student drop it off to his/her counselor. You can also email Mrs. Kressel a screen shot of their online college account if it lists the scholarship award(s). Salem’s Senior Awards Night is scheduled for Tuesday, June 5th at 7pm. Once Mrs. Kressel receives the letter(s), she will send you and your student an invitation to attend the ceremony. It is a wonderful opportunity to recognize all of our students’ accomplishments and hard work! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Summer School Registration

Summer School Registration

Registration for summer school classes will be open from Tuesday, May 29 until noon on Tuesday, June 26.

Parents and guardians may register and make payments online at any time once the online registration window opens. RegWerks is the same platform utilized to register for Virtual Virginia Beach e-Learning students. To distinguish between the two online registration programs, the summer middle and high school registration process will be referred to as Electronic Face-to-Face Summer School.

On-site summer school registration for middle and high schools will be held Tuesday, June 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to noon to accommodate families.

Salem High School's On-time Graduation Rate

Salem High School's On-time Graduation Rate

An article was published this week in the Virginia Pilot regarding the On-Time Graduation Rate (OTG) and Drop-out rates for all schools in South Hampton Roads. Salem High School’s 94% OTG rate was fourth in VBCPS and 7th in South Hampton Roads (Out of 29 Schools). Furthermore, Salem High School was the #1 performing high school in Virginia Beach with regard to SOL performance. We greatly appreciate the efforts of our parents, guardians, students, faculty and community members that make Salem High School a great place for students to learn.

It is a great day to be a SunDevil!
