  • Implements a student mentorship program (HUSH) - linking Salem High School students and Hampton University students and focusing on academic support, career opportunities and behavioral support.
  • Provides training sessions for students and mentors.
  • Creates mentorship experiences that include group programs, individual interactions and college visitations designed to enhance positive student performance.

  • Salem High School provides mentors and tutors to selected kindergarten students who are in the early stages of learning to read.
 

"Mentor Program"

Mrs. Sue Faulkner, Mr. Charles Johnson - SHS National Honor Society sponsors

  • New program 2004-2005
  • SHS National Honor Society students assist elementary school children with learning skills to help them do well on their SOL tests and provide encouragement for students to do well in school.
  • SHS students also initiated the “Growing Gators” program designed to provide a “fun” learning environment for pre-schoolers.

  • Provides tutoring for students in a variety of disciplines
  • Provides quest speakers for classes and clubs
  • Provides special demonstrations for classes (Helicopter fly-in for physics, math classes)
