Volunteers Are Needed!

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS!!!
In order to provide our graduating seniors with an all-night, alcohol-free and drug-free celebration party, Project Graduation, we need lots of parent participation to help raise the funds necessary to host such an event.  It will be held at Jillian’s at Waterside in Norfolk for the second year in a row.  Due to the size of the 2008 class, it has been determined that we need to raise at least $30,000.00 in order to cover the cost of the rental of Jillian’s, the food, entertainment, door prizes, security, transportation, etc.  The party will be chaperoned by school staff and parent volunteers.  Tickets for Project Grad may be purchased for $40.00 until March 31st!   On April 1st ticket prices will go up to $50.00; they will go up again, to $60.00, on June 1st.

Two parents, Ginger Scherck and Joanne Bryant, are co-chairing Project Grad and have attained an email list of approximately 40 parents out of a class of over 400 seniors.  Project Grad holds a monthly meeting the first Monday of every month at 7pm in the school library (Feb. 4th, March 3rd, April 7th, May 5th, and June 2nd and 9th).  We would like to have as many parents attend as possible.  We need your ideas!  Also, we have several fundraisers coming up and we need your participation!  Please check the school website, www.salemhs.vbschools.com (on the left is a section entitled “For Parents” and underneath it, just click on “Project Graduation”) to keep up to date on our fundraisers and other important information.

SOME CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • BAKED GOODS and CONCESSION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  On Saturday, Feb. 9th, we will be selling concessions for One Act Play from 8am-1pm and we are in need of donated baked goods as well as helpers.  On Wednesday, Feb. 13th, we will be selling concessions for Mr. Salem from 6-7pm until the show starts and then during intermission; again, we will need donated dessert items (such as cookies, brownies, cakes, etc.) and volunteers to help run the concession stand.  Many of our seniors are participants or involved in Mr. Salem so please plan on coming out for this fun event and buy something at the concession stand while you’re there!

  • SHOW YOUR PRIDE!  GET YOUR GRADUATING SENIOR A YARD SIGN!  Presently we are selling graduation yard signs (which include the Salem HS logo, Class of 2008, and your student’s name) for just $15.00!  Please note that the deadline for ordering and paying for your child’s graduation yard sign is May 16th.

  • COOKIE BAKERS NEEDED!  Several “Cookie Mom-sters” are baking and selling cookies at the school every Tuesday and Thursday from approximately 11am-2:30pm.  Please contact Ginger Scherck if you can help out!

  • CASHOLAS!  A fundraiser at Max & Erma’s restaurant is being planned for sometime this spring, so please check the website for more details, then come on out and support Project Grad while enjoying some great food!

If there is anyway you can help (i.e., donations of baked goods and/or door prizes; ideas and/or time for fundraisers, etc.) please contact Ginger Scherck, runn4funn@hotmail.com, phone 467-1218, or Joanne Bryant, grumpymomma@cox.net, phone 495-3963.  We look forward to hearing from you and working together to ensure that our seniors have a safe and memorable evening!  Thank you!
