Dear Parents:
It is hard to believe that the holidays are now in the rear view
mirror and that Spring is approaching. Lots of wonderful things
are happening at Salem and there are many opportunities for
student recognition and parent involvement. Please continue to
check the Salem HS website for upcoming events and details.
Do YOU Know a Super Teacher?
Can your child's teachers do amazing things? Stupendous things?
Do they inspire kids to leap, learn and soar higher than ever
before? Then your child may know the most amazing of all super
heroes - a Virginia Lottery Super Teacher!
Until February 15, 2013, you have the opportunity to send your
child's teacher into this year's league of Super Teachers! How
do you get in the game? Visit
www.vasuperteacher.com
and you're just a few clicks away from submitting a nomination
and helping honor one of Virginia's best teachers.
As always, I would like to thank all of the wonderful Salem
volunteers. The success of the Salem PTSA is a direct result of
your involvement.

Salem Small Engines Course
Salem Tech Ed is
preparing to resurrect the Small Engines Class we once taught at
Salem for the 2013-2014 School Year. To do this we will need, of
course, some small engines. If you have an unwanted Lawn Mower,
Generator or String Trimmer (that works or doesn't work) that is
collecting dust in your shed or garage please consider donating
them to us. They will be dismantled and used for educational
purposes, and I will write a Tax Letter if requested.
Students will process them (separate decks from the motors,
drain fluids, general clean-up, etc.) so just bring the whole
mess in! Please contact Jeff Kline @
Jeffrey.kline@vbschools.com to make arrangements for
drop-off.
PTSA News
Welcome back to all returning families and
a big WELCOME to all new families. We are very excited for the
new school year.
If you are already a member of the PTSA, thank you for your
support. If not, please consider joining our team. Through your
$6.00 membership, we hope to continue to fund scholarships for
our seniors, recognize and honor our dedicated teachers and
staff and help support valuable programs for all Salem students.
For the PTA to be effective and truly representative of the
school, everyone’s participation is essential. Whether you have
30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, your time, and your
talents are truly needed. We can match your time constraints and
interests to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in
ways you can help. Please contact me directly for information on
these opportunities.
The PTSA welcomes you to join our meetings to raise your
concerns and contribute your ideas and talents to better our
school. Meetings will be held on the first Monday each month at
6pm in the school library.
We would like to thank you in advance for your support. If you
have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a
wonderful school year!
